HBOT Information

 

There are many things you need to be made aware of if you have been referred to have Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy by your doctor, or have chosen to have it yourself via a waiver.

100% cotton clothing is best to be worn by those going into the chamber. This ensures the safety of our patients. Nylon clothing is not acceptable inside the chamber (underwear included, so wear cotton please). 

Please do not wear:-

1.   Deodorant
2.   Lotion (any petroleum-based hair or body products)
3.   Perfume or cologne
4.   Mousse, gel, or hairspray
5.   Makeup & or Nail Polish
6.   Jewellery
7.   Watches or any metal objects
8.   Hair accessories eg. Extensions or Wigs
9.   Hearing aids
10. Contact lenses
11. Thermal products – heat wraps, hand warmers, or pocket hand warmers
12. Dentures
13. Prostheses
14. No food, chewing gum or sweets
15. No petroleum-based products or nylon dressings – Any dressings will be inspected for compatibility
16. No transderm medication patches
17. No velco products

If you are doing IV treatment, you cannot bring IV medication into the chamber. All other medication routines may continue during your treatment.

Do not drink any Fizzy Drinks before your treatment time – as the carbon dioxide may upset your stomach.

NOTIFY TECHNICIAN. Any implanted devices must be certified with the manufacturer for pressure tolerance before hyperbaric therapy.

You may not bring in any of the following items:
1. Toys
2. Blankets
3. Any electronic devices including pagers, cell phones, Car keys, audio players, video players, iPods, game boys, etc.
4. Titanium Spectacles (Eyewear other than titanium material may be worn inside the chamber.)
5. Sweets, Chewing Gum, or food.

You may bring in any of the following items:
1. Bottles made of plastic that have no decals or writing on them
2. Sippy bottles – which can be provided to you by the technician
3. Nappies or Incontinence Pants – as long as they are covered with 100% cotton pants
4. Undergarments that are 100% cotton

To obtain the best benefits, do not smoke during the period that you are coming in for therapy. Smoking causes vasoconstriction, accumulation of carbon monoxide and toxins within the body tissues, and causes oxygen consumption, which is counterproductive to this therapy. Kindly do not smoke at least 3 hours before your treatment and four hours after your treatment.

Do not drink alcohol at least 8 hours prior to your treatment.

Eat a balanced meal before going into the chamber. Hyperbaric treatments increase your metabolism and make you feel hungry.

Things you should let your technician know prior to your treatment:
1. If you have any cold or flu symptoms, fever, sinus or chest congestion
2. If there is a possibility that you are pregnant
3. If there has been a change in your medication
4. If you have been recently hospitalized
5. If you did not eat before coming in for your treatment
6. If you are diabetic and have not taken your insulin
7. If you have any concerns at all
